Irritating search box behaviour

When searching for an email containing a text string, I focus the search box in the top-right of the UI and begin typing.

Within a second of typing, the text I entered is cleared and replaced with the string "label: inbox" To complete my search, I then have to delete the "label: inbox" and type my text string all over again.

How can I revert the previous behaviour where I could just type into the search field to filter my emails with those containing the string? I realise I can first navigate to the search "folder", but since I am usually working from my inbox, I would prefer to search from there rather than take these extra steps.

    Please see attached screencapture. I want to search for the word "airmail", but before I finish typing, my search string "airmai" is replaced with "label:Inbox"

    please rebuild the account
    from preference > account > more

    If you mean the "clean messages cache", I have tried this and it made no difference to the search behavior.

    BTW, I believe the issue below is related, which is reported as fixed, but is still a problem in the current beta.

    Unchecking "Suggested Search" in Preferences > Advanced appears to have resolved this issue for me.
